Surveys of Campus Constituents Review and Coordination

The ease and low-cost of conducting surveys (especially online surveys) can result in “survey fatigue” caused by the over-surveying of campus constituents (students, faculty, and staff). One consequence of survey fatigue is diminished response rates. Surveys that receive low response rates are susceptible to bias, which can limit the usefulness of results that might be intended to inform institutional decision making.

Widener University has developed this Office (OIRE) to facilitate the review and coordination of the administration, quality, and timing for surveys of students, faculty, and/or staff to improve the quality of surveys and the usefulness of survey results. The procedure is intended to manage survey activity through better coordination and scheduling to minimize multiple surveys occurring at the same time with the same population of campus constituents, reduce the collection of the same information from different surveys, and to provide consultation services for survey design and administration.
